Why I’m Passionate About Older Adult Fitness & Bone Health

I’ve always been drawn to older adults. I love the wisdom they carry, the perspective they’ve gained, and the peace many of them hold from a life well-lived. Even as a young person, I found myself gravitating toward older people, wanting to soak up everything they had to offer.


But I also saw the other side — how often our society simply accepts aging as decline. Immobility, weakness, and fragility are seen as “just part of getting older.” I don’t believe that has to be the story. Our bodies are capable of living stronger and healthier throughout the years.


 We don’t have to let physical setbacks or aging slow us down.


As a nurse, I saw firsthand how devastating life can become when we don’t care for our bodies — and I knew I wanted to be part of the solution. Thankfully, I had Grandparents who lived healthy, physically active lives well into their late 80's. Some aspects of our physical health are not in our control, but much of it is. I want to encourage us all to control the controllable's! 


That’s why I became a NASM Senior Fitness Specialist and pursued advanced training in osteopenia and osteoporosis. I want to empower, encourage, and educate older adults that it is never too late to start exercising. The body is resilient. With the right plan, it can continue to move, thrive, and adapt.


And here’s the truth: we need older adults to feel well...We need their positive ripple effect. The younger generations need their wisdom, their peace, and their presence. Supporting health in later life isn’t just about the individual — it impacts families, communities, and society as a whole.

Why Bone Health?


Bones are so much more than a skeleton holding us up. They:


  • Store essential minerals like calcium and phosphorus
  • Protect bone marrow, where blood cells are formed
  • Act as an endocrine organ, releasing hormones that affect metabolism and overall health
  • Respond directly to movement and loading — meaning exercise literally signals your bones to get stronger

The good news? Bone loss is preventable and manageable. With strength training, proper nutrition, and lifestyle support, people can slow, stop, and even reverse bone loss. This is why I am so passionate about helping people protect and rebuild their bone health.
